13. The Media

In days of yore, if Walter Cronkite of CBS News said something you could believe it. Once upon a time, CNN really was "the most trusted name in news." Those days are gone.

This may be the saddest part of what’s happening today. Media was always liberal and that has been a good thing. But they have never been socialist. Quite the opposite. Freedom of the press is one of our unalienable rights for a reason. The fourth estate is supposed to hold the government to account in order to protect our rights. It has been the bulwark of democracy talking truth to power. Not any more.

The conscience of the media seems to have started to shift when they realized that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They had bought the lie. Then came Obama and the love affair began. I think most Americans were proud to have broken the color barrier and elected the first black President. One small step for man. One giant step for mankind. MLK’s moral arc was bending.Obama could do no wrong according to the media. The next logical step was a woman president. The media was all in.

 

There were three flies in the ointment. Fly #1: Hillary was a screw up from the get go. Her fate was sealed when people heard her call them a basket of deplorables. Fly #2: Obama was not a nice guy after all as the world would soon find out when the whole Hillary email/Russia collusion story started to collapse. Fly #3: Donald Trump. Oh God! Donald Trump cut through the field of 16 Republicans like a hot knife through butter. He won the nomination. Then he won the Presidency. The shock was seismic. Trump was ... rude; not "one of us". He told it like it was. Who does that? When you poke the deep state hornet's nest, they come out angry and start to sting.

The Democrats were shattered. The wailing and gnashing of teeth was positively Shakespearean with a modern #metoo twist. The pussy hats took to the streets. So many Karens all in one place! Hillary’s Russia cheat hadn’t worked. Obama conspired with the deep state to trip up Trump. The deep state needed to protect its ass from a guy who was about to dismantle their corrupt, cozy kabal. Imagine a President who wants to keep his promises and actually see America succeed? It was unheard of and a threat to the old order. It hadn’t been done since Reagan. The real collusion was between the various branches of government, the Democrats and the media. Everyone played their role, made their money and got along. China was growing, The great Satin was in decline. The boys met at Davos every year. The climate change/industrial complex was flourishing and the elite of the media got to go to the dance. All was right with the world. Then Trump happened.

The media assumed that Hillary would win. They were embarrassed by the failure of their predictions. They couldn’t handle the truth. So they made up their own. It's called "fake news". The deep state had to protect its involvement in the Hillary collusion. The cover up was started. And the media ate it all, hook line and sinker - because they wanted to.

For four years, the Democrats, the deep state and the media pushed the Orangeman Bad narrative. Now the really tough part begins. How do you get your credibility back when you have lied so thoroughly for so long? Recovery of trust will be a long wrenching process but it is important. Democracy is messy and needs someone to care for it. That should be the media’s role. But they have lost their virginity and, to mix metaphors, it’s going to be hard to put the genie back in the bottle. MLK's moral arc is broken. It is no longer moral. It has been corrupted by Democrats and the mainstream media who are hell-bent on selling a lie.

Back in the Soviet days, Pravda was the propaganda arm of the government. Today, governments are using a complicit mainstream media to further their tyrannical agendas. It is happening in the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Democracy is in danger of disintegration from within. The vultures, China, Iran, Russia, etc. are smiling and circling.
